Harsh Industrial Environments

RF Interconnects for Energy Systems and Industrial Sensors

Energy infrastructure is installed once and expected to report for thirty years. Substation telemetry, distributed sensing and condition monitoring all sit outdoors, unattended, in weather and electrical noise that would disable a laboratory instrument in an afternoon.

Installed Once, Reporting for Decades

Five factors that decide whether an outdoor sensor link is still working in year twenty.

01
Water Ingress
Every temperature cycle breathes air, and therefore moisture, through any imperfect seal. Sealing at the interface rather than at the enclosure is what stops it.
02
Electrical Environment
Substations are electrically violent places. Switching transients and corona put energy across a very wide spectrum, and screening is what keeps it out of the signal.
03
UV and Ozone
Jacket materials age in sunlight and in the ozone a high-voltage environment produces. The cable often fails before the connector does.
04
No Maintenance Window
Taking an asset out of service to fix a sensor is expensive, so it usually does not happen. The interconnect has to outlast the interest in fixing it.
05
Retrofit Constraints
Most installations are on existing plant. Interfaces have to work with what is already there, not with an ideal design.

Our Role

What We Supply for Energy Installations

01
Sealed Outdoor Interfaces
N-type and TNC bodies sealed at the interface, so the thermal breathing cycle cannot draw moisture into the joint.
02
Assemblies for Retrofit
Built to the lengths and interfaces the existing plant actually has, so installation does not require rework on site.
03
Documented for Handover
Material certificates and measured data in the form asset owners expect at commissioning.
